Some Issues Residents Have Expressed Concern About in the St. James-Brooklands Ward:
- The proposed development of a hotel in place of the church on the corner of Belvidere and Portage Avenue
- Traffic speed on Ferry Road
- Condo development on CN bridge over Assiniboine River
- Snow removal near resident's wheel chair ramp
- New road at Harris Blvd and Assiniboine Avenue (issue in some parts of ward not in others)
- Closing down of Brooklands Recreation Centre (and level of vandalism with vacant building)
- Eldon Ross pool open only part of the year
- Skating rink not utilized at Brooklands Recreation Centre; create space as a small scale skateboard park in summer?
- Resolution of the Fire/Paramedic issue
- Commuting cycling paths
- Change the status of Assiniboine Avenue on Sundays (like with Wolseley Ave. and Wellington Cres.)
- Lower Residential Taxes (issue in some parts of ward not in others)
- Contradiction in having to build sound barrier windows when renovating or building new, then having to pay additional taxes
- Vandalism and litter (response to clean-up)
- Safety/crime activity on streets (issue throughout ward with higher concentrations in some areas than in other)
- Create more efficient roads and incorporate bike baths when repaving
- Mandate a 1.6 litre flush toilet to conserve water, etc.
- Mosquitoes – get rid of them but use better ways to do so
- Tree trimming – city require homeowner to trim (which is ok) but did not trim city tree which ended up breaking telephone wire down
- Better transit so senior doesn't have to wait at bus stop or stand on bus while bus is moving
- Make community centres more viable for all age groups
- Better bus service to Senior's residents (i.e. #83 bus)
- Snow clearing on sidewalks near Senior's residents throughout ward
- Pave back lanes (i.e. Alexander; behind Kiwanis Centre)
- Reinforce 'truck route' status on Moray
- Snow build-up on Moray boulevard (residential property side)
- Sewage work at night – too disruptive for sleeping
- More police presence needed in Brooklands
- Speeding on residential streets throughout ward
